The Springs Fire near Moreno Valley was mostly contained and evacuation orders were lifted after CAL FIRE reported major progress.
The Springs Fire in Riverside County was mostly contained by Sunday after firefighters made major progress overnight.
CAL FIRE said the blaze was 95% contained and that all evacuation orders and warnings had been lifted. The agency’s latest update said there was no new fire activity.
Earlier AP reporting had said the fire was no longer growing, had reached at least 75% containment, and that many evacuation orders were being lifted while a handful of zones still remained under mandatory evacuation. The newer CAL FIRE update shows those remaining restrictions have since been removed.
The fire burned near Moreno Valley. No structures had been reported damaged or destroyed in the latest coverage reviewed here.
The rapid improvement marks a sharp shift from the fire’s earlier phase, when CAL FIRE reported it at 4,176 acres and only 10% contained.
Residents in the area should still monitor local officials for any final incident updates, but the immediate evacuation threat has eased considerably.
