Yonhap and other local outlets reported that the fire started around 10:30 a.m. on the 14th floor of the building in Gyeonggi Province. Firefighters brought the main blaze under control around 11:21 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 12:35 p.m.
The dead were identified in reporting as a couple in their 60s. Police said the man fell from the unit and his wife was later found dead inside. Six residents suffered minor injuries, most of them from smoke inhalation.
Local reports said police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and the deaths. Earlier coverage initially described a lower casualty count before the toll was updated as officials confirmed more details.
