Ahmedabad recorded 40.6C on Sunday, June 14, after touching 41.3C a day earlier. The IMD expects temperatures around 41C on Monday and sees no immediate respite, with only limited rain possible later in south Gujarat.

Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6C on Sunday, June 14, keeping the city in another spell of intense heat even after a slight dip from Saturday's 41.3C reading.

The minimum temperature was 29C, above the usual range, adding to the uncomfortable conditions for residents through the night and into the morning.

Monday outlook

The India Meteorological Department has forecast a maximum of around 41C for Monday, suggesting the heat is likely to continue without much immediate relief. The weather office also said there would be no respite from high temperatures for the next few days.

Bhavnagar was also hot on Sunday at 41.4C, while VV Nagar reached 40.1C.

Monsoon watch

The IMD said the chances of a timely southwest monsoon onset over Gujarat on June 15 were very slim. It added that some parts of south Gujarat may get light to moderate rain later in the week.

For Ahmedabad, that means continued hot afternoons are likely in the short term, with any cooling dependent on how quickly monsoon progress and rainfall build across the region.
