Arizona announced that Tommy Lloyd agreed to a contract extension through the 2031 season, ending speculation about the North Carolina job.
Arizona has locked in Tommy Lloyd for the long term.
The University of Arizona announced Friday that Lloyd agreed to a contract extension through the 2031 season, pending approval from the Arizona Board of Regents. The update ends the uncertainty that had tied him to North Carolina’s coaching search.
Lloyd also made clear at a Friday press conference that he is staying in Tucson. CBS Sports and other outlets reported that he put an end to UNC speculation after being considered a serious candidate for the opening.
The school did not release financial terms. But the extension gives Arizona continuity with a coach who has kept the program near the top of the national conversation.
The latest announcement makes the deal more specific than earlier reporting, which only indicated that Lloyd would remain with the Wildcats. Friday’s update confirmed the extension runs through 2031 and signaled that Arizona’s coaching situation is settled for now.
Revision note
Updated with the specific through-2031 extension term.
