Austin Public Health is observing National Public Health Week with free screenings, community outreach and a Black Maternal Health Fair.

Austin Public Health is marking National Public Health Week with a series of free screenings and community outreach events running through April 12.

The city said its April 6 announcement is part of National Public Health Week 2026, which the American Public Health Association says runs from April 6 to April 12. Austin’s schedule includes free preventive screenings for diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol.

Several neighborhood events are planned across the week, with screenings listed for April 7, April 8 and April 9 at community centers around the city. Austin Public Health also scheduled a Black Maternal Health Fair, titled “It’s a Birthing Thang,” for April 11 at ACC Eastview.

The city’s outreach is aimed at prevention and access, giving residents a chance to check basic health markers and connect with local services close to home. A CDC Foundation post published the same day also marked the start of National Public Health Week 2026.

Austin Public Health said the week’s events are meant to highlight the value of public-health services and community-based outreach, with the emphasis on keeping care accessible in neighborhoods across the city.
