A Johannesburg court ordered Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe deported to Zimbabwe after he pleaded guilty to immigration and firearm-related charges.

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former president Robert Mugabe, has been ordered deported from South Africa after a Johannesburg court sentencing.

According to multiple reports, Mugabe pleaded guilty to being in South Africa illegally and to pointing an object perceived as a firearm. The Alexandra Magistrate’s Court ordered that he be deported to Zimbabwe under police escort.

The case stems from a February shooting incident at the Mugabe family’s Johannesburg residence. Multiple outlets reported that his cousin Tobias Matonhodze also received a prison sentence in the same proceeding.

The ruling closes one chapter of a politically sensitive case that has drawn wide attention in South Africa and Zimbabwe. The remaining question is whether Mugabe’s lawyers will challenge the sentence or whether immigration authorities will finalize his transfer without further legal action.
