Bournemouth University says student Katie O’Donnell has won the Orwell Society/NUJ Young Journalist’s Award 2026 in the Reviews category.
The university said the prize-giving took place in London on 9 May, and announced the result publicly on 18 May.
BU said O’Donnell is the first Bournemouth University student to win an Orwell award.
The Orwell Society describes the Young Journalist’s Award as an annual competition for young writers, with categories including reviews and columns. Its 2026 competition pages also set out the judging panel for this year’s awards.
The award adds a national journalism prize to a local student achievement, and BU’s announcement is the latest confirmed public update on the result.
