The Braves lost 7-6 in 10 innings to the Padres at Petco Park after building an early 4-0 lead, erasing a late deficit and then falling on Manny Machado’s walk-off single.
The Braves let another winnable game slip away Tuesday night in San Diego, losing 7-6 to the Padres in 10 innings at Petco Park on Manny Machado’s walk-off single.
Atlanta opened with a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but San Diego answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame to flip the game. The Braves kept fighting back and briefly moved in front again before the Padres tied it in the seventh and finished it in extra innings.
Early lead, sudden swing
The Braves’ early advantage disappeared quickly when the Padres put up five runs in the second. Atlanta’s response included a two-run hit from Rowdy Tellez, an RBI double from Michael Harris II and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Matt Olson.
Mauricio Dubon also homered for Atlanta in the fifth inning as the Braves worked back into the game.
Machado ends it in extras
Fernando Tatis Jr. tied the game 6-6 with a home run in the seventh inning, setting up the late innings. In the 10th, Machado delivered the deciding hit for San Diego.
The loss came one night after the Braves were shut out 1-0 in the series opener, when Machado also homered. Local coverage of the second game said Atlanta’s pitching plan drew scrutiny, including the decision to leave Carlos Carrasco in for a second inning after JR Ritchie worked five innings.
The result leaves the Braves needing a cleaner finish in the series finale and better late-game execution to avoid more damage in San Diego.
