The Cubs placed Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 21 because of a blister on his right middle finger and recalled left-hander Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa.
The move was confirmed in MLB’s transaction log and follows Cabrera’s exit from his previous start against the Brewers, when the blister forced him out of the game.
Wicks now gives the Cubs another left-handed option and fills the roster spot created by Cabrera’s absence. The club has not announced how long Cabrera is expected to miss beyond the minimum IL stint.
The move leaves the immediate question of how the Cubs will handle Cabrera’s rotation turn while he recovers and whether Wicks will start or work in a bulk-relief role.
