Caltech announced eight recipients of the 2026 National Brown Investigator Award, a program for recently tenured researchers in physics and chemistry. Each investigator can receive up to $2 million over five years.

Caltech has named eight recipients of the 2026 National Brown Investigator Award, an annual program supporting recently tenured faculty in the physical sciences.

The 2026 Brown Investigators are Jillian Dempsey, Naomi Ginsberg, Julia Kalow, Rebekka Klausen, Anshul Kogar, Lu Li, Kang-Kuen Ni and David Weld.

Each investigator is eligible for up to $2 million over five years to support curiosity-driven research in physics or chemistry.

About the award

Caltech’s Brown Institute for Basic Sciences administers the program, which was established with a $400 million gift from Ross M. Brown. The award is aimed at recently tenured researchers in the physical sciences.

The announcement is the first public release of the 2026 class. Harvard also confirmed that Kang-Kuen Ni was among the recipients.
