Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Roland Garros and Rome because of a right wrist injury that began in Barcelona, ending his clay-court season.

Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the 2026 French Open title defence because of a right wrist injury, ending his clay-court season before Roland Garros begins.

Alcaraz said on April 24 that he will not play Roland Garros or the Rome Masters after scans and medical advice showed the injury was serious enough to rule him out. The problem began during the Barcelona Open earlier this month.

ATP reporting and wire coverage from Reuters and AP confirmed the withdrawal. The decision means Alcaraz will not get the chance to defend his French Open title.

The withdrawal is one of the biggest pre-tournament blows of the clay season. Alcaraz had been one of the main attractions and title contenders in Paris.

He said he expects to come back stronger, but the immediate focus is recovery. The next question is whether he will be ready for the grass-court season.
