The CFTC announced on May 18 that DJ Hennes will lead its Market Participants Division. The agency said he brings experience in governance, risk, compliance, enforcement, crypto assets and prediction markets from roles at KPMG and Promontory Financial Group.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission on May 18 named DJ Hennes director of its Market Participants Division, a personnel move that points to the agency's continued attention on crypto assets and prediction markets.
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig announced the appointment in an official release. The agency said Hennes brings experience in governance, risk, compliance, enforcement, crypto assets and prediction markets.
According to the CFTC, Hennes was most recently a managing director in KPMG LLP's Financial Services Risk & Compliance Advisory Practice. He previously spent about 15 years at Promontory Financial Group, where he led its Capital Markets Practice for the Americas.
The Market Participants Division oversees CFTC registrants and intermediaries in the derivatives markets. That makes the role central to how the agency supervises firms and market participants under its jurisdiction.
The appointment comes as the CFTC remains under pressure to manage oversight across traditional derivatives markets while also focusing on emerging areas including digital assets and prediction markets.
