Commonwealth Utilities Corporation warns of power and water outage timing updates

The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation has issued a public advisory amid Typhoon Sinlaku, telling residents that power and water are not scheduled to be turned off.

The advisory, posted April 13, rejects rumors that utilities will be shut down within 24 to 48 hours. CUC said there is no planned outage timeline even as the storm threat intensifies.

The update comes as emergency officials across the Northern Mariana Islands prepare for possible storm damage. AP reported that power outages could be lengthy if Sinlaku hits the islands hard.

Local coverage has also warned that electricity and water could be unavailable for days or weeks after the storm passes, depending on the extent of damage.

CUC has not said whether it will publish revised outage guidance later if conditions worsen.
