CTDOT says the North Wall Street bridge over I-691 in Meriden will close to vehicles for about two months starting Sunday evening for rehabilitation. Pedestrians will still be allowed, and detours will be posted as part of the larger interstate interchange rebuild.

CTDOT will close the North Wall Street bridge over I-691 in Meriden for about two months starting Sunday, June 29, at 6 p.m., the agency said in a notice reported by CT Insider.

Vehicles will not be allowed on the bridge during the closure, but pedestrians will still be able to use it. The state says detours will be posted for both directions.

Detours

Northbound traffic will be directed from Wall Street to Gravel Street to Baldwin Avenue and then to North Wall Street.

Southbound traffic will be directed from Baldwin Avenue to Gravel Street to Wall Street and then to North Wall Street.

CTDOT says the bridge is being rehabilitated as part of the larger I-91/I-691/Route 15 interchange reconstruction in Meriden. The official project site says the overhaul is intended to reduce congestion and improve safety by addressing crashes tied to congestion and weaving.

The project website also describes the interchange as a critical freight and passenger link in the Northeast regional transportation network. Phase One was completed in October 2025, and Phase Two and Phase Three are now under construction.

The closure is expected to last until about August 23, though that schedule could shift if CTDOT updates the project timeline. Officials have already posted other closure and detour notices for the interchange rebuild, and more traffic changes may follow as the work continues.
