The Cubs made a bullpen move on April 24, placing left-handed reliever Caleb Thielbar on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain and selecting Vince Velasquez from Triple-A Iowa.
AP reported that Thielbar left Thursday’s game against the Phillies after facing one batter. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said the injury appeared mild and hoped Thielbar could return near the minimum IL stay.
The transaction was also reflected on MLB’s official transactions log, which confirmed the IL placement and Velasquez’s contract selection.
For the Cubs, the move gives the bullpen a replacement while Thielbar recovers. The club has not announced a further timetable beyond the minimum 15-day stay.
Velasquez’s addition gives Chicago another arm as it manages its pitching staff through the early season.
