Dallas County is moving ahead with a plan to publish notice for up to $350 million in certificates of obligation, including jail land and a deflection center.

Dallas County is moving toward a plan to finance up to $350 million in projects, including jail-related spending and other facility work.

County officials are set to consider a resolution authorizing publication of notice of intention to issue one or more series of certificates of obligation. KERA reported that the package could cover construction, renovations and equipment, including about $60 million for land acquisition and development for a new jail.

The Dallas Morning News reported earlier that county leaders wanted to borrow $350 million for a range of projects, including land for a new jail. A county agenda posted in March shows commissioners were also scheduled to consider the notice item in a special-called court session.

The financing plan comes as Dallas County and city officials have discussed jail-reduction efforts, including a deflection center and possible crisis-stabilization alternatives.

A final financing step is still ahead, and commissioners have not yet taken the vote that would put the borrowing plan into place.
