Watertown firefighters rescued several motorists trapped in flooded vehicles on Davis Street Friday evening. No injuries were reported, and the 50 block of the road was closed during the response.

What happened

Watertown firefighters rescued several motorists from flooded vehicles on Davis Street Friday evening after heavy rain from thunderstorms inundated the roadway, officials said.

Watertown police Lt. Jared D'Andrea said firefighters from the Watertown Fire Department helped all of the motorists out of their vehicles. No injuries were reported.

The flooding led to a closure in the 50 block of Davis Street while crews responded.

Storm context

The rescue came after the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Connecticut Friday evening. The storm system also caused widespread local disruption, including power outages across the region.

Eversource reported more than 2,000 outages in Watertown around the same time, according to the reporting.

What remains unclear

Officials had not yet said when Davis Street would reopen, whether any vehicles were damaged or towed, or whether there was additional storm damage elsewhere in Watertown.
