Eurostar warned passengers not to travel to or from the Netherlands after a fire near Rotterdam Centraal caused a power outage and severe rail disruption on June 30, 2026.

Eurostar has told passengers not to travel to or from the Netherlands after a fire near Rotterdam Centraal caused a power outage and widespread disruption to rail services.

The operator said services across the Netherlands were severely disrupted on June 30, with significant delays and cancellations affecting key cross-border routes. It advised passengers to avoid travelling until July 3, 2026.

The disruption hit London St Pancras-Amsterdam services, while some Netherlands-Brussels-Paris trains were diverted via Utrecht and delayed by up to about an hour. In at least one case, an indirect journey via Brussels was still running, but with a much longer journey time than the normal direct service.

Eurostar said alternative travel options were not available for some affected journeys. It also told passengers they may be able to postpone travel, rebook, receive an e-voucher or get a refund, depending on the ticket and journey affected.

What caused the disruption

The problem began after a fire near Rotterdam Centraal triggered a power outage, disrupting rail services in and around the station. Rotterdam is a key interchange on Eurostar's Netherlands routes, making the disruption especially disruptive for cross-border passengers.

Eurostar's warning came as operators continued to work through the recovery. The company said its services in the Netherlands remained extremely limited.

What passengers can do

Passengers facing cancelled or heavily delayed journeys may need to rebook, delay their trip or claim compensation through Eurostar's options for affected tickets.

The company has said it is monitoring the situation and has warned that services should not be attempted until July 3, 2026, unless further updates say otherwise.
