The National Weather Service extended an Oconto River flood warning, while Waupaca County’s emergency declaration remains in effect for the Wolf River.

The National Weather Service has extended a flood warning for the Oconto River above Oconto, while a county emergency declaration remains in effect for the Wolf River downstream of New London.

NWS Green Bay said minor flooding was occurring and minor flooding was forecast to continue for the Oconto River above Oconto until Thursday morning. The warning was issued at 8:57 p.m. CDT on Sunday, April 5, and the river was reported at 10.0 feet, above the 9.0-foot flood stage.

Local station WBAY reported that Waupaca County’s flood emergency remains in place for the Wolf River. The county order includes a slow-no-wake restriction within 500 feet of any permanent building along the river, and it will stay in effect until waters recede to a safe level.

The warning and declaration show that river conditions remain active in northeastern Wisconsin even as some communities begin to assess the impact of recent high water.

For now, officials are keeping close watch on both rivers. The Oconto River warning remains an official NWS product, while the Wolf River emergency order continues to limit boating activity in the affected stretch.
