Freeport lifted its boil order on April 7 after test results cleared the water following a large water main break.

Freeport officials lifted a city-wide boil order on April 7 after bacterial test results came back satisfactory following a large water main break on Cottonwood Street.

The boil order had been issued the day before after the break disrupted service on the west side of the city. WIFR reported that the order affected residents and businesses west of West Avenue.

According to the local reports, Cottonwood Street residents were told to follow door-tag instructions for their specific properties. The city then waited for test results before allowing the boil order to end.

WIFR reported that the order was lifted once the water testing came back satisfactory. No further restrictions were reported in the sources reviewed.

The episode was a short-lived public-health precaution tied to a local utility disruption, and the city has now cleared the system for normal use.
