CMA CGM agreed to buy FedEx Supply Chain for $1.4 billion, a move that would expand its North American logistics footprint and is expected to close later in 2026 pending regulatory approval.
CMA CGM agreed to buy FedEx Supply Chain for $1.4 billion, adding the FedEx third-party logistics business to the French shipping company’s growing U.S. logistics platform.
The companies said the transaction includes debt and is expected to close later in 2026, pending regulatory approvals. They also said it should be accompanied by multiyear air and ocean freight commercial agreements between the two groups.
What Is Being Sold
FedEx Supply Chain is FedEx’s contract logistics arm. The business was formerly known as Genco before FedEx acquired it in 2015.
CMA CGM said the acquisition would triple the size of CEVA Logistics, its logistics subsidiary, and deepen its presence in North America. That would give the company a larger footprint in U.S. contract logistics, a market where scale and customer relationships are central to winning business.
The announcement came on July 1 after earlier reporting from the Financial Times, followed later in the day by the Wall Street Journal and the Associated Press. AP said the deal would help CEVA Logistics triple in size.
Why It Matters
The acquisition fits a broader strategy by CMA CGM to move beyond ocean shipping and into logistics and air cargo. The company has previously pledged $20 billion in U.S. warehousing, air cargo and logistics investment over four years, and this deal gives that strategy a much larger operating base inside the United States.
Rodolphe Saadé, CMA CGM’s chairman and chief executive, said the transaction reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to investing in the United States and supporting supply-chain resilience and efficiency.
For FedEx, the sale is part of a continued portfolio reset toward core delivery operations. AP reported that FedEx completed the spinoff of FedEx Freight on June 1, 2026, underscoring how the company has been narrowing its focus.
What Comes Next
The deal still needs regulatory approval before it can close. Beyond that, investors and customers will be watching how the planned freight agreements are structured and how quickly CMA CGM can fold FedEx Supply Chain into CEVA Logistics.
The transaction could reshape competition in North American contract logistics and freight services if it clears review. For now, it marks another step in CMA CGM’s push to build a larger logistics business alongside its shipping operations, while FedEx continues to streamline its portfolio.
