Heat advisory in effect for Philadelphia region through Tuesday evening

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Philadelphia and nearby counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with the alert in effect from noon Monday through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials say heat index values could reach 97 degrees, creating a higher risk of heat-related illness for people spending time outdoors or without adequate cooling.

Local forecasters are also warning that the region could see record-setting temperatures through Wednesday, with Tuesday expected to be the hottest day of the stretch.

The advisory was issued early Monday morning by the National Weather Service in Mount Holly and has since been confirmed in local coverage from stations including NBC10, CBS Philadelphia, FOX 29 and 6abc.

Residents are being urged to take precautions during the hot stretch, including limiting prolonged outdoor activity, drinking water and checking on vulnerable neighbors, older adults and people without reliable air conditioning.

The advisory remains the main public-safety concern for the region through Tuesday evening, with forecasters continuing to watch whether temperatures reach or surpass daily records.
