ERCA issued a yellow watershed conditions statement for Windsor-Essex after rain and warned of ponding, standing water and additional rainfall.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued a Yellow Watershed Conditions Statement for Windsor-Essex after a round of heavy rain.

Local reporting said the region had already seen about 10 millimetres of rain, with another 15 to 20 millimetres possible later in the evening. The warning focused on ponding, standing water and other short-term flooding concerns.

ERCA’s flood-outlook guidance says yellow watershed statements are used when heavy rain can lead to runoff, ponding or rising watercourses. In practical terms, that means low-lying areas and roadways can become hazardous quickly.

Environment Canada’s forecast for Essex still showed rain chances in the short term on April 5, reinforcing that the wet pattern had not yet cleared the area.

Residents in Windsor-Essex were advised to stay alert for changing conditions, avoid flooded areas and check updated forecasts and local advisories.

The statement is a public-safety alert rather than a flood warning, but it signals that more localized problems are possible if the rain continues.
