Southern NSW Local Health District has launched a recruitment campaign for more than 160 jobs tied to the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital, marking a shift from construction milestones to workforce planning ahead of the hospital's planned 2027 opening.

Expressions of interest are now open, with the district inviting applicants to register for updates as roles are released. Coverage said the campaign spans emergency medicine, nursing and midwifery, mental health, surgery, allied health, pharmacy, obstetrics and gynaecology, Aboriginal health and biomedical engineering.

Recruitment is already underway for general physicians, paediatricians, junior medical officers and paediatric clinical nursing staff. Several senior positions have also reportedly been filled, including an intensive care unit director and an MRI manager.

Recruitment drive

The latest hiring push follows earlier construction progress at the $330 million hospital, which is being built south of Moruya CBD. The exterior facade was recently completed, adding another visible milestone to a project that has been framed as a major upgrade for health services in the Eurobodalla region.

The campaign is intended to build the workforce well before the hospital opens. That timing matters because the facility is expected to bring a wide range of new services to the region, including its first intensive care unit, along with emergency, surgical, maternity, mental health, imaging, outpatient and ambulatory care.

Bega MP Michael Holland said the recruitment effort is about building the future healthcare workforce for the region. His comments reflect the next phase of delivery: shifting from bricks-and-mortar construction to the staff required to run the hospital.

What comes next

Staff accommodation has also been part of the conversation around the hospital's opening. Southern NSW Local Health District has previously said accommodation planning is underway and that it has already acquired five three-bedroom units in Moruya to support recruitment and retention.

There are still open questions about the final staffing timetable, including how many of the more than 160 positions will be permanent or fixed-term and when the first formal job advertisements will be published. For now, the campaign is largely being run through expressions of interest and update registrations.

The Eurobodalla Regional Hospital remains on track for a 2027 opening, but the recruitment drive shows the project is already entering its workforce phase. The next markers to watch are formal vacancies, further senior appointments and any new details on relocation support for incoming staff.
