Morning showers and thunderstorms on Friday left hundreds of Connecticut customers without power, with Eversource reporting about 815 outages statewide and the largest cluster in Hartford. Rocky Hill, Madison and Hamden also saw outages, but most had been reduced or restored by mid-morning.

Morning showers and thunderstorms knocked out power for hundreds of Connecticut customers Friday, with the largest outage cluster reported in Hartford and most other affected towns seeing service improve by mid-morning.

Eversource reported about 815 outages statewide around 9 a.m. Friday, according to outage-map updates reported by CT Insider. The biggest concentration was in Hartford, where about 635 outages were listed after the outage began around 8:40 a.m. and an estimated restoration time was set for 11 a.m.

Earlier in the morning, Rocky Hill and Madison also reported sizable outages. Rocky Hill had about 400 outages beginning around 6:10 a.m., which Eversource said were caused by equipment damage. Service there was restored by about 8 a.m. Madison had 155 outages reported at 6:35 a.m., and Eversource attributed them to fallen tree limbs; those outages were resolved by 7:37 a.m.

United Illuminating also reported a smaller outage in Hamden. The utility listed 28 outages there Friday morning, and the total had dropped to one by 9:15 a.m.

Weather trigger

The outages came as Connecticut dealt with a forecast calling for showers and a few thunderstorms Friday morning, with additional scattered activity possible later in the day.

What to watch

The main uncertainty was whether later storms would produce more outages or new damage after the morning round of service interruptions. Additional utility updates could show whether totals continued to fall or whether any towns saw renewed problems later Friday.
