Hyundai Motor Group signed a multilateral hydrogen MOU in Hong Kong with partners from across Asia and Europe, as the city moves to build a green hydrogen ecosystem.

Hyundai Motor Group said on May 18 that it signed a multilateral memorandum of understanding in Hong Kong to help build a hydrogen ecosystem, marking a new push to use the city as a base for broader Asia-Pacific expansion.

The agreement was announced during the International Hydrogen Development Symposium 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hong Kong government coverage confirmed that nine companies from Korea, the Chinese Mainland, France and Hong Kong signed the pact.

According to Hyundai, the plan covers local production of low-carbon hydrogen, liquid-hydrogen refueling stations and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles. The company framed Hong Kong as a strategic launch point for regional growth in hydrogen-related projects.

The Hong Kong government said the symposium and memorandum are part of efforts to drive the city’s green economy. Independent reports from Hyundai’s newsroom and regional media matched the same event and partner participation.

The next phase will be whether the companies move from the memorandum stage into permitting, construction and concrete project timelines.
