Iowa DOT will close eastbound and westbound U.S. 6/Hickman Road overnight on April 8 and 9 for interchange construction near Des Moines.
The Iowa Department of Transportation says both directions of U.S. 6/Hickman Road will close overnight on April 8 and April 9 as work continues at the Hickman Road interchange near Des Moines.
According to the DOT notice, eastbound and westbound traffic will be stopped from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, weather permitting. The ramps at U.S. 6/Hickman Road are expected to remain open.
Drivers will be detoured via Northwest 128th Street, University Avenue and Northwest 114th Street. The closures are tied to bridge demolition and other traffic-shift work as part of the wider interchange reconstruction project near I-35 and I-80.
The DOT said the closure notice was issued on April 6, giving motorists a short lead time before the overnight work begins. The agency’s project page says the Hickman Road interchange rebuild remains active and that more traffic changes may follow as construction continues.
For commuters in the Des Moines metro area, the key impact is limited to overnight travel, but the closures could still affect freight and late-evening traffic in the Grimes and Clive area.
