Kimi Antonelli says Mercedes has cleared the air after his Canadian Grand Prix sprint clash with George Russell, following talks with Toto Wolff and the team’s internal review.
Kimi Antonelli says Mercedes has resolved the first major intra-team flashpoint of its season after the Canadian Grand Prix sprint clash with George Russell.
The Mercedes rookie said he spoke with Russell and team principal Toto Wolff after the race and that the situation was now all clear. Wolff had intervened on team radio during the sprint after Antonelli complained about the contact.
Antonelli and Russell made contact while fighting for position in Montreal, with Russell going on to win the sprint and Antonelli finishing third.
Mercedes later said it had reviewed the incident internally and that both drivers are allowed to race hard, but fairly, as the team works through its ground rules.
Wolff had already said after the sprint that he did not want to hold Antonelli back, and that the matter would be dealt with inside the team rather than in public.
The focus now shifts to whether any further official action follows the incident, and to Sunday’s race, where Mercedes is trying to keep its title fight moving without another teammate clash.
