WHO has launched a new abortion-care learning programme on WHO Academy, with four courses and a same-day webinar introduction.
The World Health Organization has launched a new learning programme designed to help health workers deliver comprehensive abortion care.
In a departmental update published on April 28, WHO said the programme is part of its Human Reproduction Programme and is available through WHO Academy. The launch was paired with a same-day webinar to introduce the course.
WHO says the programme is built around four courses: medical abortion, surgical abortion, post-abortion care, and human rights integration in comprehensive abortion care. The aim is to support safe, respectful and rights-based care.
The launch comes as abortion care remains a sensitive and unevenly delivered part of health systems in many countries. WHO is framing the new training as a practical way to strengthen provider knowledge and improve care quality.
The agency’s event listing says the launch webinar took place on April 28 at 14:00 Geneva time. WHO Academy and sexual and reproductive health pages also list the programme among current events.
The immediate next step is whether WHO publishes additional course details, recordings or enrollment information following the webinar.
For health workers and health systems, the new programme is meant to turn WHO guidance into training that can be used in day-to-day care.
