Logroño will offer free access to three municipal pools for three days and increase afternoon irrigation in central public spaces as the city responds to an intense heatwave.
Logroño will make three municipal pools free for three days and increase afternoon irrigation in central public spaces as temperatures climb during a heatwave expected to push readings above 40C in parts of the Ebro valley.
Free access to three pools
The Ayuntamiento de Logroño said residents will be able to enter the municipal pools at Las Norias, El Cortijo and Varea without charge from Monday, June 22, 2026, through Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Free access will run each day from 11:00 to 15:00.
The city said the measure is intended to help people cope with extreme heat.
Extra irrigation in the city center
Logroño will also intensify afternoon irrigation in several central public spaces, including the Espolón, the Glorieta, Parque del Carmen and Parque Gallarza.
Municipal authorities said the steps are part of a broader adaptation strategy that includes a network of 65 climate refuges, along with advice to avoid sun exposure and strenuous activity during the hottest hours, stay hydrated, wear light clothing and protect vulnerable groups.
Heatwave context
National weather reporting and AEMET alerts indicate that the first summer heatwave began on Sunday, June 21, and is affecting much of Spain, including the Ebro valley. Local reporting says temperatures in the area could exceed 40C.
The city’s move adds an immediate public-service response as the heatwave continues. It remains unclear whether Logroño will extend the free-pool access beyond June 24 if the extreme heat persists.
