The Seattle Mariners selected right-hander Nick Davila from Double-A Arkansas on Saturday, adding a new bullpen arm as they continued to manage their roster.

To make room, the Mariners optioned left-hander Josh Simpson to Triple-A Tacoma. The club’s 40-man roster was full after the move.

Davila, 27, is expected to make his major league debut the first time he appears in a game. He was invited to Mariners spring training earlier this year and has spent this season with Double-A Arkansas.

In eight appearances for Arkansas, Davila posted a 2.00 ERA with two saves, 10 strikeouts and one walk.

The transaction was confirmed by the Mariners’ official release and later matched by additional reporting. For Seattle, the move provides another bullpen option while Davila gets his first shot at the majors.
