The Mets recalled Tobias Myers and Jonathan Pintaro, optioned Daniel Duarte, and placed Christian Scott on the injured list retroactive to June 12. Reporting says Myers is expected to start against the Reds and Kodai Senga will take Scott’s rotation spot.
The Mets adjusted their pitching staff ahead of Monday’s game against the Reds, recalling Tobias Myers and Jonathan Pintaro from Triple-A Syracuse, optioning Daniel Duarte, and placing Christian Scott on the injured list with a right hip impingement retroactive to June 12.
Reporting also says Myers was expected to start the June 16 game in Cincinnati, while Kodai Senga is set to take Scott’s rotation spot.
Roster shuffle
The moves gave the Mets two fresh arms as they navigated a thin pitching staff on the road. Myers had been stretched out in Syracuse and was brought back with starter duty in mind, while Pintaro added bullpen depth.
Duarte went back to Triple-A after recent workload concerns were reported, leaving the Mets with fewer immediate relief options.
Scott to the injured list
Scott’s placement on the injured list removes a rotation option that had been providing stability. The move was backdated to June 12, which means he had already been unavailable for several days before the club made the transaction public.
The injury was identified as a right hip impingement.
Senga’s return path
Later reporting indicated that Senga is lined up to replace Scott in the rotation. That gives the Mets a clearer short-term answer, but it also keeps attention on how quickly the staff settles after the series opener.
The team also claimed Zack Short off waivers from the Tigers and transferred Jorge Polanco to the 60-day injured list, adding to a day of roster churn.
What to watch
The immediate questions are whether Myers stays stretched out enough to hold a rotation role, how long Scott is sidelined, and whether Senga’s return gives the Mets more stability beyond this series.
For now, the club is trying to cover innings and preserve bullpen usage while the rotation absorbs another injury setback.
