Miami GP Sprint Qualifying: Lando Norris ends Mercedes' 2026 qualifying run with McLaren's first pole of F1 season

Lando Norris took Sprint pole at the Miami Grand Prix, delivering McLaren its first pole of the 2026 Formula 1 season and ending Mercedes’ qualifying run.

Formula 1 said Norris topped Sprint Qualifying with a lap of 1:27.869, beating Kimi Antonelli by 0.222 seconds. Oscar Piastri finished third.

The result was McLaren’s first P1 grid slot of 2026 and the first time Mercedes was beaten to pole in qualifying this season.

Formula 1’s official report, highlights and onboard coverage all confirmed the result, and Sky Sports also reported that Norris had ended Mercedes’ qualifying streak.

The Miami session marked a shift in the early 2026 pecking order and gave McLaren a strong starting point for the rest of the weekend.
