Western Railway's Vadodara yard remodelling and signalling upgrades will affect more than 170 train services, including five cancelled pairs and multiple diversions during a June 29-July 1 block.
Major disruption planned at Vadodara
Western Railway's yard remodelling and signalling upgrade work at Vadodara station will affect more than 170 train services over roughly 10 days, with the most intensive disruption scheduled during a non-interlocking block from June 29 to July 1.
The changes are tied to the station redevelopment project and the integration of the remodelled yard with a new electronic interlocking system. TOI reported that related operational changes have already been in place since May 16.
Vadodara is one of the busiest junctions in Gujarat, so the temporary changes are expected to ripple across a key rail corridor used by large numbers of passengers.
How the service pattern changes
According to the reported arrangements, 114 train services will be routed via Chhayapuri, 57 via Vishwamitri and 20 via Bajwa during the disruption period.
Some trains will also originate or terminate at Makarpura and Pratapnagar instead of Vadodara station.
The railway division has planned a mix of cancellations, diversions and alternate start or end points to keep traffic moving while the work is carried out.
Cancellations and diversions
Five pairs of services will remain cancelled during the block period. Among the named cancellations are the Vadodara-Dahanu Road Superfast Express and the Valsad-Dahod Intercity Express.
Six Ektanagar-bound services linking Varanasi, Chennai and Rewa will also be diverted via the Dabhoi-Kayavarohan-Miyagam Karjan route between June 23 and June 28.
The diversion window for those services ends before the main non-interlocking work begins at Vadodara on June 29.
Railway response and passenger impact
Vadodara division public relations officer Anubhav Saxena said railway officials had worked out extensive operational arrangements to minimise inconvenience.
The scale of the changes means passengers using Vadodara should expect altered boarding points, changed origins and terminations, route diversions and some outright cancellations across the period.
The immediate focus now is on execution of the June 29-July 1 block and whether Western Railway adds any more train pairs to the cancellation list before work begins.
Passengers travelling through the station are being advised to check train status before leaving for the station and to watch for any further operational notices.
