The Huron County Road Commission plans to begin resurfacing 8.85 miles of Atwater Road on July 13. The road will remain open under flag control, and work is expected to finish by August 7 if weather cooperates.

The Huron County Road Commission plans to begin resurfacing 8.85 miles of Atwater Road on Monday, July 13, in Parisville Township.

The project starts at the eastern edge of Ubly’s village limits and continues toward Ruth Road. The road is expected to remain open during construction, with traffic controlled by flagging.

According to the road commission, the work will include hot mix asphalt resurfacing, cold milling, aggregate shoulders and pavement markings. Officials said the project is intended to improve ride quality and extend the pavement’s service life.

Completion is expected by Aug. 7, weather permitting.

Earlier work on the corridor

Atwater Road was already part of the county’s longer-term road plans. Earlier drainage work on the corridor was described as preparation for the resurfacing project, which had been discussed as part of 2026 road work planning.

For motorists, the main impact will be temporary delays through the work zone rather than a full closure. Drivers are being asked to follow flagging instructions and plan for slower travel along the corridor while crews are active.
