Noida International Airport begins commercial operations with first IndiGo flight

Noida International Airport began commercial passenger operations on June 15, 2026, with IndiGo flight 6E 2278 arriving from Lucknow and then departing back to Lucknow minutes later.

The launch marked the first scheduled commercial service at the new greenfield airport in Jewar, in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddha Nagar district. Coverage from the day of launch said the first arrival landed shortly before 8 a.m., followed soon after by the return departure.

The opening flight turned a long-planned airport project into an operating passenger gateway for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.

Why the launch matters

Noida International Airport is being positioned as a relief valve for Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and as a regional hub for nearby markets in western Uttar Pradesh.

That makes the first commercial arrival more than a symbolic milestone. A working airport in Jewar can improve direct air access for the region and potentially shift some passenger demand away from Delhi's main airport over time.

The airport had already been inaugurated earlier in 2026, but commercial passenger operations were only starting now. The June 15 flight therefore serves as the true opening of scheduled service.

IndiGo's phased rollout

IndiGo is leading the initial network buildout at the airport and has said it plans to launch 16 routes in phases.

Earlier reporting said five of those routes would begin in June, with the rest expected in July. The opening-day network was set to include Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Amritsar, while Jammu was scheduled to start on June 16.

Times of India reported on May 8 that ticket sales had opened and that June 15 would be the airport's first commercial day. That report also said Lucknow would be the inaugural route and the first city connected to the airport.

The phased launch will be the clearest test of whether the airport can scale smoothly from its first flight into a regular domestic schedule.

Early operations and next steps

The immediate focus now is on whether IndiGo can keep the early schedule steady and add the remaining planned destinations on time.

Further operating data will show how passengers respond, how the airport handles processing, and whether other airlines move onto a similar timetable.

For now, the first commercial service from Lucknow has made Noida International Airport a functioning part of India's airport network and a new option for travelers in the NCR region.
