The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it finished the environmental review for Dow and X-energy’s Long Mott Generating Station ahead of schedule and issued a finding of no significant impact.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it completed the environmental review for Dow and X-energy’s proposed Long Mott Generating Station ahead of schedule, marking a key milestone in the licensing process for the advanced reactor project in Texas.
The agency’s release, listed on its May 18 news index, said the review ended with a finding of no significant impact. Dow said the environmental assessment was completed in under a year.
Long Mott Energy, LLC, a Dow subsidiary, is seeking a construction permit for the project in Seadrift, Texas. NRC background materials identify X-energy as involved in the application.
The environmental assessment is one part of the NRC’s review of the permit application. The company and agency have not said when the next licensing milestone will arrive, and it is not yet clear whether any hearing or adjudicatory step could affect the timeline.
The faster-than-expected completion gives the project an early regulatory win as it moves through the federal approval process for an advanced nuclear plant.
