Feroz Khan has filed an urgent Johannesburg High Court application seeking to stop SAPS from accessing data on devices seized from him, arguing the contents could expose undercover operatives and compromise investigations.
Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan has filed an urgent application in the Johannesburg High Court to stop SAPS from accessing data from devices seized from him during his arrest.
According to the reporting, Khan wants police barred from downloading or copying information from the phones and other electronic devices taken during a search at his Houghton home. He argues the material is sensitive and could expose undercover operatives and compromise ongoing investigations.
The court bid is the latest development in the wider precious-metals case in which Khan has already appeared in court with co-accused Ebrahim Kadwa and Tariq Downes.
Reporting from multiple outlets says Khan’s application is based on the claim that letting SAPS extract the data could have serious security consequences, with one outlet quoting his warning that people could die if the information is accessed.
Parliament previously confirmed Khan’s arrest and court appearance in the related matter. The National Prosecuting Authority has also issued a statement on the broader case.
The immediate question is whether the High Court will grant urgent relief before any forensic extraction of the seized devices is completed.
