A power fault at MSEDCL’s Mansar substation cut electricity to Nagpur’s Navegaon raw-water pumping station on June 12, disrupting treatment and distribution across several zones and threatening the next morning’s supply if power was not restored overnight.
A power fault at MSEDCL’s Mansar substation cut electricity to the Navegaon raw-water pumping station in Nagpur on Friday, disrupting water treatment and distribution across the city and creating the risk of a larger supply hit on Saturday morning.
Officials said the outage stopped pumping from the Navegaon Khairy Dam source and affected raw-water supply to the Gorewada and Godhani water treatment plants as well as all four Pench plants. Residents in several parts of the city reported low pressure or temporary disruption on Friday evening.
What happened
According to the report, the fault at Mansar caused the pumping station to shut down, interrupting the flow of raw water needed to keep Nagpur’s supply system running. OCW and NMC were coordinating with MSEDCL to restore power and resume pumping.
The disruption came at a sensitive time for the city, which has been under heavy summer demand and is already drawing near its full sanctioned water quota.
Areas affected
The report said the impact was felt in parts of:
- Laxmi Nagar
- Dharampeth
- Hanuman Nagar
- Dhantoli
- Nehru Nagar
- Gandhibagh
- Satranjipura
- Ashi Nagar
- Mangalwari
Consumers were advised to use water judiciously and contact OCW for assistance.
What to watch
Officials warned that if power was not restored overnight, the June 13 morning water supply could also be affected. The main unanswered question is whether the Mansar substation fault was repaired in time for the next supply cycle and whether all affected zones returned to normal pressure by Saturday morning.
