The Valencian Community has recorded its first widespread torrid night of the year, with overnight lows staying at 25C or above in several coastal and rural areas.
According to Cadena SER Radio Valencia, Aemet linked the episode to low cloud, easterly or northeasterly winds during the night, the lack of refreshing sea breezes and a very warm Mediterranean Sea. In weather terms, a torrid night is one in which the minimum temperature does not fall below 25C.
Where the heat was strongest
One of the clearest readings came from the Tancat de Mília, south of the Albufera in Sollana, where the minimum temperature reached 26C.
Elsewhere, the coast of La Safor and northern Marina Alta, as well as Ribera Baixa, l'Horta Sud and València, all stayed at 25C or above. The report says the phenomenon was widespread across both urban coastal areas and rural zones.
A pattern already building
The warm night followed similar episodes earlier in the week. On July 1, Cadena SER reported a torrid night in La Safor, with 27C in Oliva and 25C in Gandia.
A separate report on June 23 already showed how persistent the nighttime heat had become in the province of Alicante, where Benidorm reached 28.6C and several other municipalities stayed above 25C.
What to watch next
The main question now is whether the same pattern repeats over the next few nights. Forecasters are watching for continued easterly or northeasterly flow, low cloud and the warm sea conditions that can prevent temperatures from dropping overnight.
For residents, the immediate impact is poorer sleep and less overnight relief in both coastal and nearby inland areas, with added concern if the episode extends for several more nights.
