Qatar Airways resumed daily Doha-Adelaide flights on June 16, restoring a route suspended in February after Middle East airspace disruption. Adelaide reports say Emirates is also due back on daily service next week, adding to the city’s international links.

Qatar Airways has resumed daily flights between Doha and Adelaide, restoring one of South Australia’s most important long-haul links after a suspension that began in February.

The airline’s return on June 16 brings back a direct daily connection to the Gulf after conflict-related disruption in the Middle East affected airspace and forced the route to pause.

Route returns

Adelaide Now reported that the service is now operating daily again, with the restart described as a restoration of a key international link for Adelaide passengers, exporters and the broader tourism sector.

The route matters because it gives travellers one-stop access through Doha to Europe, the Middle East and other onward destinations on Qatar Airways’ network.

Wider impact in Adelaide

The resumption comes as Adelaide Airport continues to post strong international demand. Adelaide Now said April was the airport’s busiest month on record, with 791,000 passengers and 96,509 international passengers.

South Australian Tourism Minister Emily Bourke welcomed the return of Qatar Airways, alongside the planned return of Emirates.

Emirates is expected to resume daily Adelaide flights on June 23, which would restore another important Gulf option for travellers after a period of reduced capacity.

Adelaide’s restored Gulf services add to the city’s links via Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Cathay Pacific, improving options for travel to Europe, the Middle East and beyond.

What to watch

The main question now is whether Qatar Airways keeps the Adelaide service at daily frequency through the northern summer and beyond.

Any update from Qatar Airways or Adelaide Airport on longer-term capacity will help determine how durable the restoration is after the spring suspension.
