Philadelphia-area forecasts call for several rounds of rain through the holiday weekend, including periods of heavy rain Saturday into Sunday, before temperatures turn milder on Memorial Day.

Philadelphia-area residents should expect a wet and unsettled Memorial Day weekend, with rain heavy at times Saturday and Sunday before conditions improve somewhat by Monday.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly said several rounds of showers are likely through the holiday weekend, with cooler conditions holding through Saturday and warming on Sunday and Memorial Day. The agency’s Philadelphia zone forecast calls for rain Saturday, rain in the morning Sunday, and showers likely on Memorial Day, with highs reaching the mid-70s.

NBC10 Philadelphia said a heavy rain alert is in effect for Saturday and Sunday and that 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall. The station said the rain may be heaviest Saturday afternoon into Sunday, with morning showers still possible on Memorial Day before drier, milder weather later in the day.

FOX 29 described Saturday as the dreariest part of the weekend, with widespread rain and heavy bursts at times, then more sporadic rain on Sunday. CBS Philadelphia called Saturday a washout and said rain could become heavier overnight into Sunday morning before some drying late Sunday.

The main message from the latest forecasts is that holiday plans across the Philadelphia region may need a backup option for much of the weekend, especially Saturday. Memorial Day looks like the best chance for a partial recovery, though lingering showers are still possible.
