Remains of 20th-century Ukrainian military leader reburied near Kyiv

Andrii Melnyk and his wife Sofiia Fedak-Melnyk were reburied at the National Military Memorial Cemetery near Kyiv on May 25, according to Ukrainian official statements and local reporting. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the ceremony.

The burial followed the couple's exhumation in Luxembourg on May 19 and their transfer to Ukraine ahead of the reburial. A memorial service was held in Kyiv before the burial.

Ukrainian authorities had previously said the remains should be returned and reburied in Ukraine. The state-backed ceremony is part of a broader effort by Kyiv to honor historical figures linked to Ukraine's independence movement.

Zelenskyy's office later confirmed his attendance at the cemetery ceremony, alongside other senior Ukrainian officials.
