Ridgefield police investigated an anonymous threat at East Ridge Middle School on June 11 that led to a school hold and search by multiple agencies. Officials said no explosives or credible threat were found and students and staff remained safe.
Ridgefield police are investigating an anonymous threat that prompted a hold at East Ridge Middle School on Thursday morning, after officials said the report claimed explosive devices were inside the building.
Ridgefield Public Schools said the threat came through the Say Something app. The school was placed in a hold around 10:30 a.m. while police responded.
Police from Ridgefield, Stamford and the Connecticut State Police searched the school. Officials said they did not find any explosives or other credible threat.
Superintendent Susie Da Silva said students and staff remained safe. Normal operations resumed after the hold ended.
Police response
Authorities said the incident is still under investigation and they are working to identify the source of the anonymous threat.
The Ridgefield case comes amid a recent cluster of school swatting and hoax threats reported in Connecticut in towns including Watertown, Weston, Brookfield, Hamden, Darien, Greenwich and Plainfield. In those cases, too, police said searches found no credible danger.
Officials have not said whether the Ridgefield incident will be formally classified as swatting or another offense.
