Russian strikes on Naftogaz gas production facilities killed five people and wounded dozens, according to Ukrainian officials and the company.
Russian missile and drone strikes on Naftogaz gas production facilities in Ukraine killed five people and wounded 37, officials said.
Naftogaz said the overnight attack hit facilities in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions. The company said its infrastructure was damaged, fires broke out and production processes were temporarily suspended.
Ukraine's Interior Ministry said two rescuers were killed in a repeated strike after emergency crews arrived at the scene. Naftogaz said three of the dead were its employees.
Reuters first reported the attack on Tuesday, and AP later confirmed the casualty count and the damage to gas production infrastructure. The strike adds more pressure on Ukraine's energy system as Russian attacks on critical infrastructure continue.
Officials were still assessing the full extent of the damage and the impact on gas production.
