Ukraine said a large Russian drone-and-missile attack killed at least 16 people and injured more than 100, with strikes reported in several cities.
Russia’s overnight missile-and-drone assault on Ukraine killed at least 16 people and injured more than 100, according to reporting that cited Ukrainian officials and emergency responders.
The attack lasted for hours and struck several cities, including Kyiv and Odesa, as well as other parts of the country. AP reported that civilian and residential areas were damaged in the barrage.
Ukraine’s air force said it detected 703 aerial targets and downed or neutralized 667 of them, including 31 missiles and 636 drones, according to Reuters-sourced reporting. Even so, some missiles and strike drones still hit multiple locations.
The casualty figures have risen since the first reports of the attack earlier in the day, underscoring how quickly the toll is still changing as rescue crews continue their work. The latest accounts point to a heavy civilian toll across a broad geographic area.
Ukrainian officials condemned the attack. Foreign minister Andrii Sybiha called the strikes war crimes and said they must be stopped.
Further updates are expected as authorities finish damage assessments and continue searching affected sites.
