Rwanda and Botswana have signed six bilateral cooperation agreements in Gaborone, deepening ties between the two countries across trade, mobility and investment.
The signing took place on May 6 during President Paul Kagame’s two-day state visit to Botswana and was witnessed by Kagame and Botswana President Duma Boko.
The agreements cover double taxation avoidance, visa abolition for diplomatic, official and national passport holders, a bilateral air services agreement, a health memorandum of understanding, an economic trade and investment memorandum, and an agreement between the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre and the Rwanda Development Board.
Botswana’s government has said the broader visit and joint commission process are aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, investment, mining, tourism, education, science and technology.
The deals are expected to support easier travel and closer economic coordination, although implementation timelines and any ratification steps were not immediately detailed in the reporting reviewed.
