South Carolina upsets undefeated UConn, 62-48, to reach title game

South Carolina ended UConn’s perfect season Friday night with a 62-48 win in the women’s Final Four.

The victory snapped the Huskies’ 54-game winning streak and sent the Gamecocks back to the national championship game. It was also a rematch of the 2025 title game, which UConn won 82-59.

AP reported that Ta’Niya Latson led South Carolina with 16 points and Agot Makeer added 14. The Gamecocks controlled the game from the opening stretch and kept UConn from ever finding its usual offensive rhythm.

UConn entered the semifinal at 38-0, according to the school’s tournament preview, and the loss marked the end of one of the most dominant runs in recent women’s basketball memory.

For South Carolina, the win carried a clear sense of revenge after last year’s championship defeat. The result also keeps the Gamecocks in position to repeat as national champions.
