Police in Dehradun say a robbery suspect was killed after firing at officers during a chase in Premnagar, and later reporting identifies the dead man as Akram Ali of Shamli, Uttar Pradesh.
According to The Indian Express and other outlets, the incident followed a robbery in which a contractor was relieved of about Rs 2 lakh. Police say the suspect shot at Premnagar SHO Naresh Rathore while fleeing into a forested area, and officers returned fire in self-defence.
Later reports say two accomplices escaped and that a search operation was launched. Rathore was injured in the exchange of fire.
The reporting so far is consistent that the case began as a robbery chase and ended with one suspect dead, one officer injured and two men still on the run.
The next step is likely to be a fuller police account of the robbery, the shooting and the manhunt for the other suspects.
