Southwest Research Institute has released its 2025 Internal Research & Development Annual Report, outlining more than $13 million in internal research spending and a broad slate of projects across multiple disciplines.

SwRI said it invested more than $13 million in IR&D in fiscal 2025. The institute said staff initiated 141 new projects during the year and carried 108 previously funded projects forward, bringing the total to 249 active internally funded projects.

The report highlights work in automotive and transportation, Earth and space, defense and security, and biomedical and health research. SwRI said the internal program is designed to support early-stage work that can lead to new capabilities and technical advances across the institute.

The annual report became public on April 7, 2026. EurekAlert also carried the announcement the same day, reinforcing the release date.

The publication is primarily an institutional update, but it offers a useful snapshot of how SwRI is allocating internal research dollars and what subject areas are currently drawing the most attention.
